Asia Cup: 'If India don't come to Pakistan...' Inzamam-Ul-Haq gives his opinion on ongoing conflict

By MyKhel Staff

Inzamam-ul-Haq opined that if BCCI refuses to send the Indian team to Pakistan then Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should return the favour. The former Pakistan captain made the comments while addressing the local media on the sideline of an event.

"Wherever cricket happens, teams should go and play," Inzamam-ul-Haq said. "This is for all the nations and not just Pakistan. It is Asia 11's (Asian Cricket Council) duty to ensure all teams participate. This is for ICC as well, that wherever their events take place, they must ensure all teams participate.

"As far as India is concerned, if they don't come to Pakistan, then we shouldn't go to India as well. Playing at a neutral venue is a good idea, its up to the governing body to ensure all nations play."

The ongoing conflict between BCCI and PCB started last year when the Indian cricket board's secretary Jay Shah, in the capacity of Asian Cricket Council chairman, announced that Asia Cup venue, to be officially hosted by Pakistan before the World Cup, will be moved away to a neutral nation.

PCB since then made several attempts to enforce that the hosting rights stay with them and most recently, under their new chairman Najam Sethi, lobbied for a hybrid model where all of India matches will be played in the UAE.

BCCI, however, is uncertain about the logistical implication of the idea, and a meeting on finalising the venue is scheduled on the day of the IPL 2023 final (May 28) in Ahmedabad with ACC dignitaries invited to attend the gala event.

Two cricket boards, Sri Lanka Cricket and Bangladesh Cricket Board, argued that it's not the best idea to play cricket in gulf region in September-October due to the intense summer. However, PCB chief Sethi reasoned that events have been hosted in the Middle-east during the period, including Indian Premier League and World Cup.

Najam Sethi has also clarified that if they are stripped off the hosting rights for the Asia Cup then they won't visit India for the World Cup in India in October-November this year.
