Asia Cup Rivalries: Sri Lanka rules Pakistan in continental event - Head-to-head record

The rivalry between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup is a fascinating one. Do not judge Sri Lanka on the basis of their current strength. The Sri Lanka team of the past was second to none. Quality batters, bowlers and all-rounders made the islanders one of the best in the sport.

Despite not being at their best, Sri Lanka managed to win the 2022 Asia Cup as well. Sri Lanka have often brought up their A-game in the Asia Cup and Pakistan have been on the receiving end of it for the most time.

The two sides have met each other in the tournament 17 times (ODIs and T20Is combined). Pakistan have managed to win just five of these games. Sri Lanka, who have won the title six times, hold the bragging rights with a whopping 12 wickets against Pakistan who have always been a competitive team.

Sri Lanka's massive edge over Pakistan in the finals of Asia Cup

Pakistan and Sri Lanka have locked horns against each other four times in the final of Asia Cup. Sri Lanka have come on top as many as three times. They first defeated Men in Green in the final of 1986 Asia Cup at home. Sri Lanka avenged the loss 14 years later by beating Sri Lanka in the final of Asia Cup 2000 in Bangladesh.

From then, Sri Lanka went on to win the final against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2014 in Bangladesh and the Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE.
