Asia XI wins toss elects to bat

Bangalore, June 6 (UNI) Asia won the toss and elected to bat against Africa in the opening match of the three-match Afro-Asia Cup series at M Chinnaswamy Stadium here today.

The Asian team is being led by Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene, while his African counterpart will be led by South African all-rounder Justin Kemp.

Asia left out Dilhara Fernando and Mohammad Rafique, while Africa left out Peter Ongondo and Vusi Sibanda from the 14-member squads.

Teams: Asia: Mahela Jayawardhane (Capt), Santh Jayasurya, Saurav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Mohammad Yusuf, Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (WK), Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Mashrafe Mortaza and Mohammed Asif. 12th man: Upul Tharanga.

Africa: Justin Kemp (Capt), Stewe Tikolo, Mark Boucher (WK), Elton Chigumbura, Ab De Villiers, Thomas Odoyo, Shaul Pollock, Morn'e Morkel, Albie Morkel, Loots Bosman and Boeta Dippenaar.

12th man Johan Botha.
