Asom defeats Tripura by 8 wickets

Cuttack, Feb 19 (UNI) Powered by a brilliant 108 which included four sixes and eleven boundaries by opener Pervez Aziz and 76 by Captain J Arun Kumar, Asom crushed Tripura by eight wickets in their Ranji trophy one day match played at Barabati Stadium here today.

Kumar joined Aziz after Asom had lost openers Saurav Bhagwati and Tezinder Singh who had failed to open their accounts. Aziz and the Asom captain had the Tripura bowlers at their mercy and scored all round the wicket.

Kumar's 76 came off 93 balls which included eight hits to the fence.

Earlier, being put in to bat by Asom, the Tripura batsmen collapsed before the bowling of Arlen Kumar, who claimed four for 37.

Tripura batsman Chetan Sachdev was the only player who managed to put up some resistance scoring 50 runs. Most of the other batsmen fell in their 20s without being able to build partnerships.

The Tripura team was bundled out for 194. Besides, Arlem Kumar, A N Ahmed and S Tarafdar claimed two wickets each conceding 27 and 41 runs respectively.
