AUS vs AFG: Fans troll Australia after Afghanistan stun them in high-stake World Cup 2023 match in Pune

By MyKhel Staff

AUS vs AFG: Five-time champions Australia were trolled by fans after Afghanistan stunned them in a high-stake match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune on Tuesday, November 7.

Sixth-placed Afghanistan first put up a spirited performance to post 291/5 in 50 overs. The side scored 92 runs in the last 10 overs. Rashid Khan hammered unbeaten 35 runs off just 18 balls. His innings consisted of two fours and three sixes.

Earlier in the innings, opener Ibrahim Zadran became the first batter from Afghanistan to score a World Cup hundred. The 21-year-old batter scored 129 unbeaten runs off 143 balls. The innings consisted of eight fours and three sixes.

Afghanistan returned back after the break to completely own the Australian batting line-up. Travis Head got out for a duck in the second over. Naveen-ul-Haq struck for the second time to dismiss Mitchell Marsh (24) in the sixth over.

From 43/1 in 5.3 overs. Australia were soon reduced to 91/7 in 18.3 overs. After Azmatullah Omarzai struck twice on consecutive deliveries in the ninth over, Australia were reduced to 49/4 overs. Later Rashid Khan also chipped in with two wickets and Marnus Labischange (14) was run out by Rahmat Shah in the 15th over.

Here's how fans reacted to the Australian batting collapse in front of spirited Afghanistan. The fact that Australia had denied playing a bilateral series against Afghanistan due to political reasons earlier this year, added to the excitement of the fans.
