AUS vs NED: Zampa equals Shami and Afridi's record, Starc third-highest wicket-taker in ODI World Cup history

AUS vs NED: Australia defeated by Netherlands by a record 309-run margin in the 24th match of the World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, October 25.

This second biggest win in terms of runs in ODI cricket history was architected by the batting fireworks from David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne in the first half, and the bowling masterclass from Australian bowlers, especially Adam Zampa in the second half.

AUS vs NED: Zampa equals Shami and Shahid Afridi's World Cup tally, closes in on Warne's record

Leg-spinner Adam Zampa picked four wickets for just eight runs in three overs. This was his third consecutive four-plus wicket haul in the World Cup 2023. It started with 4/47 against Sri Lanka, then 4/53 against Pakistan, before a record-equalling third four-fer against the Netherlands.

Zampa, Shami and former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi have picked three consecutive four-plus wicket hauls each. In case, the 31-year-old picks four or more wickets in Australia's next match against New Zealand on Saturday, he will become the first bowler to pick four consecutive four-plus wicket hauls in World Cup history.

Adam Zampa is already the only Australia to pick three consecutive four-plus wicket hauls in World Cups. In fact, he is only behind Shane Warner in the list of Australia spinners with most four-wicket hauls in ODI cricket. Warner picked 12 four-wicket hauls in his ODI career which consisted of 194 matches. Zampa has 11 four-fers from 90 matches.

AUS vs NED: Starc equals Malinga and Akram's tally; third on list of bowlers with most wicket in World Cups

Left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc maintained his streak of picking at least a wicket in each of the World Cup matches he has played till date. He clean bowled Netherlands opener Max ODowd for six runs in the fifth over.

The wicket helped him equal Wasim Akram's record for most clean bowled dismissals in World Cups. Both the left-arm pacers have cleaned the stumps of batters 25 times each in the World Cups.

Also the wicket took Starc at par with Lasith Malinga in the list of bowlers with most wickets in ODI World Cups. Starc and former Sri Lanka pacer Malinga are tied in third spot with 56 wickets. Glenn McGrath and Muttiah Muralitharan are leading the chart with 71 and 68 wickets respectively.
