AUS vs PAK: Aamer Jamal creates Pakistan record in debut Test series, emulates Imran Khan's elusive record

AUS vs PAK: Pakistan right-arm pacer Aamer Jamal has become the first player from the country to pick 18 wickets in debut Test series of three matches or less after picking a six-wicket haul in the first innings of the third and final Test against Australia in Sydney.

The 27-year-old from Mianwali, who scored 82 runs off 97 balls during Pakistan 1st innings in the ongoing Test, also emulated Imran Khan's record. He is the only player from the country after former skipper Imran Khan to score 80-plus runs in an innings and register a six-wicket innings haul in the same match. Imran Khan achieved the feat against India in 1983.

Jamal is also among the elusive list of touring players with 125-plus runs and 15-plus wickets in a three-Test series in Australia after England’s Ian Botham and another former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram.

His figures of 6/69 is the third best by a Pakistani pacer at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Mohammad Asif (6/41) and Imran Khan (6/63) occupy the first and second spots respectively.

The spell from Aamer Jamal helped Australia bundled out Australia for 299. The hosts were cruising at 187/2 at one stage. Pakistan took a 14-run first innings lead but conceded the advantage after being reduced to 68/7 at the end of Day 3.

Pakistan are almost certain of losing the series by a 3-0 margin, but Jamal would have the opportunity to finish the series as the leading run-scorer. He is currently tied with Pat Cummins who has also picked 18 wickets in the 3-Test series.
