AUS vs WI 1st Test Playing 11: What Is Australia & West Indies Line-Up For Adelaide Test?

Australia and West Indies have announced their playing 11 ahead of the first Test, which is scheduled to be played from Wednesday (January 17) at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.

The hosts had already revealed that Steve Smith will be promoted in the batting order to open the batting, replacing the recently retired David Warner with all-rounder Cameron Green coming into the side.

Australia captain Pat Cummins confirmed the inclusion of Green in an otherwise unchanged side that faced Pakistan earlier this month, while West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite named three men to make their Test debuts.

Kavem Hodge and Justin Greaves have earned Test caps, as has Shamar Joseph, who impressed in their side's tour match against the Cricket Australia XI last week. Here is a look at the playing 11 of both the teams.

AUS vs WI 1st Test Playing 11

Australia XI: Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Mitch Marsh, Alex Carey (wicketkeeper), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins (captain), Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.

West Indies XI: Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Kirk McKenzie, Alick Athanaze, Kavem Hodge, Justin Greaves, Joshua Da Silva (wicketkeeper), Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Kemar Roach.

With Green's inclusion, Australia will have more pace bowling options in addition to Mitchell Starc, Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Marsh. Nathan Lyon is the lone specialist spinner, while Marnus Labuschagne, Smith and Travis Head all can also roll their arm over if required.

For the visitors, right-arm seamer Greaves of Barbados has a reputable First Class bowling record averaging 22.76, though will be leaned on more with the bat. Hodge, who averages a tick under 30 at First Class level, is entrusted to provide a similar role, albeit chipping in with his left-arm orthodox to compliment Gudakesh Motie.

For Australia, batter Matt Renshaw and pacer Scott Boland sit out, while Akeen Jordan, Kevin Sinclair, Tevin Imlach and Zachary McCaskie miss out on a place in the team. Here is a look at the Australia and West Indies Test squads:
