AUS vs WI: Josh Hazlewood runs through West Indies batting unit, Australia on cusp of massive win in Adelaide

AUS vs WI: Australia continued their solid run in Test cricket at home, and reduced West Indies to 73/6 in the second innings at the end of Day 2 at the Adelaide Oval. Josh Hazlewood wreaked havoc once again to leave West Indies, who are still trailing by 22 runs, in tatters.

On Thursday, January 18, Australia resumed their batting from their overnight score of 59/2 and lost Cameron Green (14) early. But Usman Khawaja (45) joined forces with Travis Head to take the team's total past hundred.

Once Khawaja was dismissed by Justin Greaves, Australia lost plot for a while and lost two more wickets in quick succession. With Australia five down for 168, Travis Head took the onus on him once again and resorted to counter-attacking cricket and slammed a 122-ball hundred.

His partnership with Mitchell Starc (10 off 38) accounted for 54 runs off 77 balls. Australia captain Pat Cummins chipped in with 12 off 35 and partnered for 33 runs off as many balls with Head who was dismissed by Alzarri Joseph for 119 off 134 balls.

Nathan Lyon walked in at number 10 and scored 24 runs off 34 balls to help Australia finish at 283 in 81.1 overs. Already under pressure after conceding a 95-run lead, the West Indies batting unit collapsed once again.

The visitors were reduced to 7/3 as Hazlewood, who picked four wickets in the first innings, dismissed captain Kraig Brathwaite (1), Tagenarine Chanderpaul (0) and Alick Athanaze (0) one after the other. Hazlewood picked the fourth wicket by sending Kavem Hodge (3) back in the hut to leave West Indies further reeling at 19/4.

Kirk Mckenzie (26) looked to attack but was outdone by Cameron Green. Umpires called for stumps as soon as Nathan Lyon tapped Justin Greaves (24) in front of the stumps.

Australia have largely stayed unchallenged in their ongoing Test summer. The whitewashed Pakistan 3-0, and are looking set to give West Indies the same treatment in the 2-Test series.
