Australia will face Sri Lanka in Match 5 of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, UAE, on Saturday, October 5.
Reigning champions Australia, widely considered to be the favourites to win the Women’s T20 World Cup trophy for the seventh time, would aim to begin their campaign with a victory on Saturday.

However, the Lankans will come into the match on the back of a 100% record in the warm-up matches against Bangladesh Women and Scotland Women. If their captain and star batter, Chamari Athapaththu, manages to regain her form, then Sri Lanka will back themselves to defeat any opponent at the tournament.
Ahead of Saturday’s entertaining encounter, Australia have a perfect head to head record against their opponents, Sri Lanka. In the seven matches between the two teams, the Australians have emerged victorious seven times, with Sri Lanka yet to taste their first victory.
Two of those seven meetings were in ICC Women’s T20 World Cups. The first of those came in the Group A game in the 2020 edition in Australia, where the home team won by 5 wickets. In the second game at the 2023 T20 World Cup in South Africa, Australia again defeated Sri Lanka, this time by 10 wickets.
