Australia's Mitchell Marsh has been ruled of next month's Champions Trophy in Pakistan and UAE due to a back injury which also casts doubt over the all-rounder's participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).
Cricket Australia (CA) revealed on Friday (January 31) that Marsh will be out of the Champions Trophy owing to a lower back pain that has "not responded sufficiently to rehabilitation".

"Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC men's Champion's Trophy with ongoing lower back pain and dysfunction," CA said in a release. "The National Selection Panel and Australian men's medical team ruled Marsh out of the tournament with the injury which has not responded sufficiently to rehabilitation."
"His lower back pain flared in recent weeks leading the NSP to make the longer term decision for Marsh to complete a more extended period of rehabilitation," the CA statement further read.
Marsh was dropped in favour of Beau Webster for the final Test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy which concluded earlier this month. He had an ordinary run in the four Tests.
The right-arm medium pacer did not share much workload with the front-line bowlers and managed to score in double digits only once in seven innings. He was, however, named in the Australian squad for the Champions Trophy. But now, they will need to find a replacement.
CA said the national selection panel will be meeting soon to name a replacement of Marsh, who was picked in the 15-member side for the competition alongside other all-rounders Aaron Hardie, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis.
"Marsh will now undergo a period of further rest and rehabilitation as part of his return to play plan. The NSP will meet to decide on a replacement for Marsh in due course. The deadline for the final squads for the ICC men's Champion's Trophy is prior to Wednesday 12 February," CA said.
Pat Cummins (captain), Alex Carey (wicketkeeper), Nathan Ellis, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis (wicketkeeper), Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Matt Short, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa.
While CA has confirmed the all-rounder will not be fit enough for the Champions Trophy, a few other reports suggest Marsh is also doubtful for the IPL. The 33-year-old Marsh was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 3.40 Crore at the IPL Mega Auction last year in November.
Now, it is unclear if Marsh, who featured for Delhi Capitals in the last few editions, will be available for LSG ahead of the 2025 edition of the IPL, which is scheduled to start on March 23. Marsh is the lone overseas all-rounder in the LSG squad that also includes the most expensive player, Rishabh Pant.
