Australia Announce Squads For England White-Ball Series; Cummins, Starc And Hazlewood Rested, Youngsters Get Chance
Cricket Australia has announced its squads for the upcoming white-ball series against England, with several big names missing as the two arch-rivals prepare to face each other in an eight-match contest comprising three ODIs and five T20Is.
The series, scheduled to begin on November 13 in Perth, will see Australia field different combinations across the two formats, with the selectors handing opportunities to several young and emerging players.

The biggest talking point from Australia's squad announcement is the absence of their experienced pace trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. The three senior fast bowlers have been rested as they prepare for Australia's upcoming ICC World Test Championship assignments against New Zealand and India.
Meanwhile, Nathan Ellis has been left out of the ODI squad as he continues his recovery from a side strain sustained during Australia's series against South Africa in September. However, the pacer has been included in the T20I squad.
Mahli Beardman, Oliver Peake Included In Aus Squad
Australia have made several interesting selections, with former ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup stars Mahli Beardman and Oliver Peake earning places in the 14-member ODI squad.
Young all-rounders Jack Edwards and Liam Scott have also been included in the ODI setup, as Australia look to expand their pool of options ahead of future international assignments.
Beardman, in particular, will be one of the players to watch after impressing with his recent performances for Australia A. The selectors have also shown faith in his potential across formats, with the youngster featuring in both the ODI and T20I squads.
The T20I squad features several fresh faces, including Nikhil Chaudhary, Joel Davies, Lachlan Shaw and Sam Harper. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Mitch Owen have also returned to the national T20I setup.
Australia will also have to manage their resources carefully between the two formats. Test regulars Travis Head, Matthew Renshaw, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis and Cooper Connolly will feature in the ODI series but will not be part of the T20I leg.
This provides an opportunity for several emerging players to make their mark against England, one of Australia's oldest and fiercest rivals.
George Bailey explains Australia's selection strategy
Australia selection chair George Bailey said the upcoming series would provide an excellent opportunity for players to showcase their abilities against a strong England side.
"These ODI and T20 matches provide several players, many of whom have had opportunities on recent tours, with a great chance to further demonstrate their ability against very strong opposition," Bailey said.
Speaking about Liam Scott's inclusion, Bailey highlighted the all-rounder's development over the past year. "Liam Scott returns to the ODI squad,d and we are excited by the fact he learns from each opportunity and have seen him grow his game on the back of strong performances over the past 12-18 months," he added.
Bailey also expressed his excitement about Beardman's return to the national setup, praising the youngster's performances for Australia A. "Mahli Beardman's recent performances for Australia A were impressive, and we are incredibly excited for his return to the national team across the ODI and T20 formats. We think he can continue to develop into an all-format player across the coming years," the selection chair said.
He also backed Lachlan Shaw's potential in the shortest format, saying: "Lachie Shaw is a highly talented cricketer we also think will develop quickly and has a powerful game that will impact in the T20 format."
On Sam Harper's selection, Bailey said the wicketkeeper-batter had been performing consistently in domestic cricket.
"Sam Harper has performed strongly in domestic cricket. He is in a great place with his game right now and is executing his style of cricket consistently across all formats," he said. Bailey further explained the decision to bring back Fraser-McGurk and Owen for the T20I series.
"Jake (Fraser-McGurk) and Mitch (Owen) return to the T20 side, and we believe their ball-striking can be a point of difference in the shorter formats," he said.
"They are good examples of players who have had an opportunity at the International level and have continued working on their game from what they learnt from those experiences."
