Australia captain Steve Smith sets world record

Hobart, Jan 23: Australia's captain Steve Smith today set a world record when he scored an unbeaten century in his team's 3-wicket victory over England in a ODI tri-series match.

Smith on Friday became the first skipper in the history of the game to score hundreds on both Test and 50-over captaincy debuts.

Last month, the right-handed Smith had hit a century in his first Test as captain, against India in Brisbane. Smith enjoyed a prolific Test series against India, which Australia won 2-0, amassing a record 769 runs with 4 centuries in 4 matches.

With George Bailey suspended for an over-rate offence for today's match, Smith was handed the reins. The 25-year-old has carried his Test form into ODIs. He had scored 133 in Brisbane against India in first match as Test captain and today made 102 not out, his 3rd three-figure score in 48 ODIs.

Smith's ton secured Australia's place in the tri-series final on February 1.
