Australia Legend Michael Slater Collapses in Court after not getting Bail following Domestic Violence Charges

Former Australian Test cricketer Michael Slater collapsed on the court after getting denied bail following domestic violence allegations.

Slater, who appeared in court wearing prison greens, faced charges including assault occasioning bodily harm, strangulation, unlawful stalking, breaking into a dwelling at night, and four counts of common assault. The court session on Tuesday came after an adjournment the previous day.

The situation escalated for Slater when Magistrate Raelene Ellis refused his bail application, causing him to collapse in the dock. He was helped to his feet by the police present in court.

Police detailed how Slater allegedly engaged in unwanted communication through text messages, phone calls from private numbers, and voicemails. It was reported that on the night of April 12, Slater was detected by a motion sensor at the victim's home, leading to an incident where he allegedly broke a kitchen window, entered the property, and assaulted the victim. The ordeal was captured by a security camera.

Following the incident, Slater was apprehended and taken to Nambour General Hospital for injuries sustained from the broken glass. The court was informed of Slater's mental health issues, characterized by "impulsive and reckless" behavior.

Slater's advocate Michael Robinson promised mental health rehabilitation for the former Australia cricketer, but the court didn't grant bail. The next date for the hearing is May 31 and that means the 56-year-old may have to stay in prison for over a month.

The case highlights the serious allegations against the former cricketer, underscoring the legal challenges he faces. As the legal process unfolds, Slater remains in custody, awaiting further proceedings in his case. This incident adds to the complex narrative of a sports figure facing significant legal and personal battles.
