Australia ODI Squad vs England: Visitors Add U-19 World Cup Winner as Senior Stars Return For 50-Over Series

By MyKhel Staff

Australia Under-19 World Cup winner Mahli Beardman has earned first senior call up as Australia announced their ODI squad for the upcoming five-match series against England, scheduled to start on Thursday (September 19).

Earlier this year, the 19-year-old Beardman was one of the star performers in the U-19 World Cup. Beardman was also named the 'Player of the Match' for his stupendous bowling performance in the final match against India.

Beardman was named as standby after the Australian squad had been hit with injury problems. Xavier Bartlett suffered a strain during the first T20I against England. Nathan Ellis was pulled from the Scotland series after he sustained an injury in The Hundred.

Meanwhile, Spencer Johnson was not added to the squad after sustaining an injury. Skipper Pat Cummins has also been rested. However, the ODI World Cup champions will have the services of their other two senior pacers Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.

Left-armer Ben Dwarshuis, who joined the squad ahead of the washed out third T20 in Manchester, is also part of the squad for the five-match 50-over series and will serve as the fourth specialist pacer alongside Starc, Hazlewood and Sean Abbott.

Batting all-rounder Cooper Connolly, who featured in the recent T20I series, has been added to the ODI squad against England. The 21-year-old was initially named only as part of the T20I squad.

Apart from Starc, the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey also join the squad for the ODI series with Marcus Stoinis among the players missing from the T20I series.

Mitchell Marsh, the captain as well as Cameron Green and Aaron Hardie will be the other all-rounders in the group, while Jake Fraser-McGurk, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Short and Adam Zampa retain their spots in the squad.

The five match ODI series, which begins on September 19 at Trent Bridge, will continue with the second and third ODIs on September 21 and 24 at Headingley and Riverside Ground, respectively.

The fourth 50-over match between England and Australia will be held at the iconic Lord's on September 27. The fifth and final ODI will be played at County Ground on September 29.
