Australia Record In ICC Events: Baggy Greens First To Win It All After WTC Final Triumph

Australia beat India comprehensively in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final at The Oval in London on June 11 and later beat the same opposition to clinch the ODI World Cup to become the first team to win all the ICC events.

With their first-ever WTC title triumph followed by the ODI World Cup 2023, the Baggy Greens extended their record to 10 trophies in ICC tournaments with number being the most ever by a team so far. Australia, who won their first T20 World Cup in 2021, has won in all the ICC events.

Australia, WTC winners in 2023

Having finished runners up in the inaugural edition, Australia lifted their first ICC title in 1987 following the first of a record six ODI World Cup titles triumps. They also achieved a hattrick of World Cup triumphs from 1999 to 2007.

The Australian men's cricket team has also won the Champions Trophy twice so far. They also dominated the Test and 50-over format for many years under the captaincy of Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting.

While they missed on making the final in the inaugural WTC Final in 2021 due to slow over-rates costing them a spot in the summit clash, Australia became the first team to qualify for the final in the following cycle and went on to lift the title eventually.

Now, with the ninth ICC title in the bag, let's take a look at the Australian men's cricket team's record in ICC events or tournaments since their first-ever triumph in 1987.

Apart from the ten final wins, Australia have also finished runners up in three more ICC events - twice in ODI World Cup and once in T20 World Cup, which they managed to win after failed six attempts.

In total, they have appeared in every limited over format ICC event - 13 ODI World Cups, 6 T20 World Cups and 6 Champions Trophies, winning 9 times. And in the World Test Championship also they have appeared in two cycles, winning once so far.
