Australia vs Afghanistan Head To Head Record & Stats Ahead of T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 Match 8

Australia will look to get closer to sealing a semifinal spot when they face Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match 8 at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent on Saturday (June 22).

Mitchell Marsh-led Australia carried their unbeaten run from the group stage into the Super 8s when they defeated Bangladesh by 28 runs (DLS Method). Australia has so far registered wins over England, Namibia, Scotland, Bangladesh and Oman.

Meanwhile Rashid Khan’s Afghanistan started the tournament with three impressive wins over New Zealand, Uganda and Papua New Guinea, but extended their losing streak to two following a 47-run loss to India in their Super 8 opener after a thumping 104-run loss to West Indies.

Afghanistan will now aim for a win to stay alive in the semi-final race, but they face a daunting task up against Australia, who defeated the Asian side from jaws of defeat in the ODI World Cup last year when Glenn Maxwell smashed a double century to take his team home.

If India beat Bangladesh in the earlier fixture and Australia win the contest against Afghanistan, the two semifinalists from Group 1 will be finalized before the two top sides collide on Monday (June 24).

While they clash for the second time in T20 format, Afghanistan and Australia will meet for the first time in the Kingstown venue, which has hosted several games in the ongoing tournament. Here is a look at the head to head numbers of AFG vs AUS:

In the only AFG vs AUS head to head meeting in T20Is, Australia defeated Afghanistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide, where Maxwell was once again the player of the match with an unbeaten 54 off 32 balls as the hosts registered a 4-run win.

Australia and Afghanistan will face off for the first time at the Arnos Vale Ground, a venue which has staged many other T20Is including games in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

While Australia and Afghanistan have never played at the Arnos Vale Ground, the venue in Kingstown has played hosts to 5 T20Is so far and most games have been low-scoring affairs. Here is a look at the overall record at the St Vincent venue:
