Australia vs Oman: Glenn Maxwell out for golden duck against Oman, Travis Head also fails

Australia vs Oman: Glenn Maxwell's poor form continued as he was dismissed for a golden duck in Australia's first Group B match of the T20 World Cup 2024 against Oman in Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on Thursday, June 6.

The star all-rounder was dismissed on the third ball of the ninth over by pacer Mehran Khan, who also helped Oman get rid of Travis Head in the third over after Australia were asked to bat first. Head scored 12 runs off 10 balls.

Glenn Maxwell endured a horror run in the IPL 2024 for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He scored 52 runs in 10 matches at an average of 5.77 and a strike rate of 120.93 in the tournament. He also took a refreshment break in the IPL 2024, but that did not help him match after he returned to the RCB eleven after the departure of Will Jacks ahead of the playoffs.

Travis Head, on the other hand, emerged as the fourth-highest run-scorer in IPL 2024, but his form dipped towards the business end of the IPL 2024. Head, who scored a hundred in the World Cup 2023 final, got out for ducks in three of his last four outings including the IPL 2024 final.

Australia vs Oman: David Warner and Marcus Stoinis lift Australia

After the poor start which saw Australia getting reduced to 50.3 in 8.3 overs, David Warner and Marcus Stoinis forged a 102-run partnership off 64 balls to resurrect the Australia innings.

Opener Warner scored 56 off 51, while Stoinis chipped in with unbeaten 67 off 36 (Two fours, six sixes) as Mitchell Marsh-led Australia settled for 164/5 in 20 overs. Tim David (9) got run out on the last ball of the Australian innings.

Pat Cummins, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis and Ashton Agar were benched in Australia's opener as Nathan Ellis was included in the playing eleven. Cummins was in all likelihood rested as he arrived late in the West Indies after his long IPL 2024 campaign with finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
