Record champions Australia will face hosts South Africa in the final of the Women's T20 World Cup 2023 at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town on Sunday (February 26).
The two sides booked their final berth after last-over thrillers. Meg Lanning-led Australia reached the final after a 5-run victory over India in the first semi-final, while Sune Luus' South Africa defeated England by 6 runs in the second semi-final.
Australia and South Africa will clash for the second time in this edition of the T20 World Cup. In the group stage encounter, Australia restricted the hosts to 124/6 in their allotted 20 overs and chased the target of 125 with 6 wickets in hand.
The Aussies also reached the target with 21 balls to spare thanks to 33-ball knock of 57 runs by Tahlia McGrath after an all-round bowling effort.
Apart from the clash in this year's World Cup, the two sides have also faced each other 5 other times in the shortest format on international stage and all their meetings have come in the T20 World Cup over the years.
In the 6 meetings so far, Australia have won on all six occasions. Also, the two sides have only met in the show-piece tournament in the T20 format so far.
