Who Won the Toss Today, AUS vs SL World Cup 2023 Match 14: Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and elected to bat first against Pat Cummins' Australia in ICC World Cup 2023 Match 14 at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Monday (October 16).

Australia and Sri Lanka head into the match on the back of two defeats in two matches. While Cummins' Australia lost to India and South Africa, Sri Lanka lost to South Africa and Pakistan in their opening two matches of the tournament.

As for the teams for Monday's match, Sri Lanka have made two changes, one forced with regular skipper Dasun Shanaka being ruled out of the tournament, and the other a change in the pace department as young Maheesha Pathirana making way for Lahiru Kumara.

Australia, on the other hand, remain unchanged from their defeat to South Africa, meaning Josh Inglis keeps his place behind the stumps instead of Alex Carey, and Sean Abbott also remains out of the playing 11.

After opting to bat, Sri Lanka skipper Mendis said: "The wicket is looking good and it might turn a bit in the second half. Par score might be 280-300, hopefully we can manage that."

On the team news, Mendis added: "We have 2 changes. Dasun and Matheesha are not playing and Chamika and Lahiru Kumara are playing. Unfortunately Dasun is not playing, really important match today."

After being asked to bowl, Australia skipper Cummins said: "We probably would have batted as well but don't think it is too big a difference. The last 2 days we had training sessions and everyone is very clear on quite a few areas we need to sharpen up. We are playing the same team."
