Australian cricket tour to Pakistan in 'doldrums' over security fears

By Super Admin

Karachi, Feb.4 (ANI): It's highly unlikely that Cricket Australia (CA) would allow its national cricket squad to tour Pakistan amidst the deteriorating security conditions in the country.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt, the Australians are skeptical of visiting Pakistan because of security fears.

Butt also made it clear that the PCB is ready to host the Kangaroos at any neutral venue, and is in discussions with the Australian Cricket Authorities to finalise the venue and the dates.

"It (the series) in unlikely to be played in Pakistan," Butt said, adding: "We are discussing dates and venues with our Australian counterparts."

The PCB has suggested various venues to Australia such as the UAE, Malaysia, Ireland and England.

Australia was supposed to play a five-match one-day series and a Twenty20 game on the tour to Pakistan, which was to be held in April 2009.

Earlier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had relocated the eight- nation Champions Trophy from Pakistan citing 'safety and security' concerns. (ANI)
