Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel has said he remains flexible about his batting position, insisting that his primary focus has always been on fulfilling the team's requirements rather than chasing a specific role.
Axar, who has frequently been described as a "crisis man" for both India and his IPL franchise in recent seasons, addressed questions about whether he prefers batting higher up the order or finishing innings during a Delhi Capitals press conference ahead of IPL 2026.

The all-rounder emphasised that adaptability has been central to his success and reputation as a dependable performer in pressure situations.
Responding to questions about his batting position preference, Axar made it clear that he does not see himself as tied to a fixed role.
"If you have watched me over the years, I have always been the same kind of player. I always think about what the team requires. That is probably why I am seen as someone who fits into the 'crisis man' role."
He explained that his mindset revolves around stepping up whenever the team needs support, whether that means stabilising the innings or finishing strongly.
"I always want to stand up for what the team needs. Whether the team needs finishing or middle-order stability, I look at what is required and prepare myself accordingly."
Axar also highlighted that contributions at different stages of the innings are equally valuable.
"Whether someone scores four runs in two balls or 12 runs in two balls, that is important. Similarly, an opener scoring 80 runs is also important. Every role matters."
Axar said he deliberately avoids expecting a specific batting slot, as it can create unnecessary pressure and disappointment.
"I never think that I should get only one particular role. Because when you expect a fixed role and don't get it, you become disappointed, and that affects your game."
Instead, he believes maintaining an open mindset helps him deliver consistently across different match situations.
"I always keep one thing in mind-that I will be ready for whatever the team needs. When you stay open to different roles, you can give your 100 percent."
He added that restricting oneself to a single role can limit growth and performance.
"If you limit yourself to just one role, you restrict your own game. And when that role doesn't come your way, you feel disappointed, and your performance suffers."
Axar's versatility has been one of his defining strengths across formats, especially in high-pressure situations where he has often delivered crucial performances with both bat and ball.
As Delhi Capitals prepare for IPL 2026, his ability to adapt across batting positions is expected to remain a key asset for the team, particularly in tight match scenarios where flexibility often determines outcomes.
