Ayush Mhatre Highlights ‘Gen Next Mindset’ While Rohit Sharma’s Fitness Gains Attention

Sunil Gavaskar believes the next generation of cricketers are redefining how players deal with setbacks, pointing to young Chennai Super Kings batter Ayush Mhatre as a prime example.

Speaking on JioStar's 'Amul Cricket Live', the former India captain highlighted how younger players are more focused on the present rather than dwelling on past failures.

Gavaskar suggested that Mhatre could be best suited to a top-order role, particularly at No. 3, where his natural game can flourish.

"I believe Number 3 is a good position for Ayush Mhatre. He has batted lower down the order in the Under-19 setup, but three could suit him well," Gavaskar said on JioStar.

More importantly, he praised the youngster's ability to move on quickly from setbacks.

"He was dismissed first ball in the previous game but showed no signs of being affected by it. That's the beauty of the 'Gen Next' mindset, they don't dwell too much on the past and focus on the present. It's a fantastic attitude."

According to Gavaskar, this mindset is becoming a defining trait of modern cricketers.

Gavaskar also spoke about Rohit Sharma's improved physical condition and how it has positively impacted his batting.

"We've all seen the change in Rohit Sharma's physical condition. He has clearly worked very hard and the rewards are visible," he said on JioStar.

He noted that improved fitness has translated into sharper movement and better timing at the crease.

"His footwork looks quicker, he has more energy, and that gives him more time at the crease. Elegant players often make batting look effortless, but that comes from preparation and hard work."

Gavaskar also reflected on how Rohit's recent performances resemble his early-career form.

"Some of the shots he played recently reminded you of Rohit in his early twenties, when he made batting look ridiculously easy. It's great to see him scoring runs again because he's such a delightful player to watch."
