Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi involved in fight inside Pakistan dressing? Moin Khan says 'no unity' in team

Amid reports of dressing room fight and war of words between Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi after crashing out of the Asia Cup 2023, team's former wicketkeeper-batter has said that there isn't any unity in Pakistan cricket team.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam and senior pacer Shaheen Afridi were at loggerheads after facing a last-ball defeat against Sri Lanka in their must-win Super Fours match on Thursday.

Babar Azam was asking the senior players to step up and slamming them when Shaheen Afridi reportedly interrupted and asked the star batter to at least praise who did well in the continental showpiece event. Babar did not like the interruption and hit back by saying he was aware of players doing well.

Before things could escalate the matter was reportedly diffused by support staff and Mohammad Rizwan. However, Babar Azam did not speak a word on his way back to the hotel. He looked distraught while getting off the bus and entering the hotel.

There was no unity in Pakistan team: Moin Khan

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter has now claimed that there was no unity in the Pakistan team when they were losing hold of the match against Sri Lanka. He pointed out that no player from the team walked to Babar Azam to support him in the tense situation.

“We saw in the entire tournament, I’ve commented about it earlier as well… no player walked towards Babar. Neither Rizwan came to him, nor even the vice-captain was coming to him. No one was going to him. It felt everyone was scattered, there was no unity,” Moin Khan told Geo TV.

Moin Khan added that the emergence of these issues ahead of the all-important World Cup 2023 was a blessing in disguise for the team who could now address the matter and work towards one goal of winning the coveted trophy for the first time after 1992.

“It’s good that such matters have come out before the big tournament. So that, you can rectify and improve conduct. This will develop unity. The issues should not happen during matches. This does not send a good vibe that such reports are coming out in the media about fight, argument in the dressing room: Moin said.

“The handling has not been right. If somebody has an issue with Babar or if he is not handling the issue in the right manner in the absence of the head coach or director of cricket, who is not with the team it very unfortunate. It’s their job to intervene to handle such situation,” he added.
