Babar Azam smashed his second consecutive fifty for Peshawar Zalmi in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024, and in the process completed his 10000 T20 runs, and broke a massive T20 record held by West Indies great Chris Gayle and India star Virat Kohli.
The former Pakistan captain scored 68 runs off 42 balls in the first match for Peshawar Zalmi against Quetta Gladiators on Sunday, February 18. His innings consisted of four fours and as many sixes.

On Wednesday, February 21, Babar Azam became the fastest batter to complete 10000 T20 runs after his 72-run knock off 51 balls against Karachi Kings. The right-hander smashed seven fours and a six this time.
Babar Azam broke the record of Chris Gayle who completed his 10000 T20 runs in 285 innings. Former India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli achieved the feat in 299 innings.
The Peshawar Zalmi captain reached the landmark score in just 271 innings. Only twelve players have scored over 10000 runs in T20 cricket till date.
Gayle is the leading run-scorer in T20 cricket. He has scored 14562 runs in 463 matches, and is followed by Shoaib Malik (13159), Kieron Pollard (12689), Alex Hales (12209), David Warner (12033), Virat Kohli (11994), Aaron Finch (11458), Rohit Sharma (11156), Jos Butter (11146), Colin Munro (10648), James Vince (10242) and David Miller (10019).
Babar Azam, the only batter with 3000 PSL runs, is going through a supreme T20 form at the moment. He has scores of 72, 68, 47, 47, 36 and 62 in his last six outings. Peshawar Zalmi posted 154 runs in 19.5 overs after being invited to bat by Karachi Kings. Babar Azam's side is eyeing their first win of the PSL 2024 season.
