Pakistan's batting maestro Babar Azam has etched his name in cricketing history by becoming the fastest batter to score 11,000 runs in T20 cricket. Babar achieved this milestone during the second T20I of the three-match series against South Africa at SuperSport Park, Centurion, on December 13, 2024.
The 30-year-old accomplished the feat in just 298 innings, surpassing the previous record held by West Indian legend Chris Gayle, who took 314 innings to reach the landmark. Babar's consistency in the shortest format of the game has been remarkable, with 11 centuries and 90 fifties to his name.

Babar scored a brisk 31 off 20 balls in the match, including three boundaries and a six, before being dismissed by George Linde in the 12th over. Despite his performance, Pakistan fell short, losing the game by seven wickets.
Babar's 11,000-run achievement places him in elite company, as only ten other batters have reached this milestone. Among them, he is the only player to do so in under 300 innings, outpacing cricketing greats like David Warner (330 innings) and Virat Kohli (337 innings).
In addition to his T20 success, Babar crossed another milestone during the same match by becoming the second-fastest Pakistani player to score 14,000 international runs, needing just 338 innings. He joins an illustrious group of Pakistani cricketing icons, including Mohammad Yousuf, Javed Miandad, and Inzamam-ul-Haq.
This achievement adds to Babar's growing legacy as one of the modern era's finest cricketers. Since making his T20 debut in 2012, Babar has consistently demonstrated his ability to anchor innings while accelerating when needed.
Despite criticism of his strike rate in T20s, his remarkable consistency and technical finesse have solidified his status among the game's elite. With 14,029 international runs across formats and counting, Babar is closing in on the top Pakistani run-scorers of all time.
Though his captaincy tenure has seen its challenges, Babar's contributions with the bat remain undisputed. As Pakistan's premier batter continues to rewrite records, fans and critics alike await more historic moments from Babar Azam in the years to come.
