Babar Azam-inspired Meme Fest As Pakistan Crash Out T20 World Cup 2024 Before Super 8 Round

Babar Azam-inspired memes took centre stage as Pakistan crashed out of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Friday (June 14), To qualify for the Super 8, Pakistan were hoping for a USA defeat against Ireland before winning their last group stage match on Sunday.

However, USA's match against Ireland was abandoned due to rain and damp patches at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill in Florida. The shared point after the abandoned match helped USA qualify for the Super 8.

USA finished their group stage with five points in four matches. Even if Pakistan beat Ireland in their last match against Ireland on Sunday, they will fall a point short of the USA.

Notably, top teams from each of the four groups will qualify for the Super 8. India became the first team to qualify from Group A after beating USA on Wednesday.

Pakistan's T20 World Cup 2024 campaign was ransacked by USA in their very first outing as the Babar Azam-led side lost the match in a thrilling Super Over finish. The Men in Green then failed to chase 120 against India. At one stage they were cruising at 80/3 in 14 overs.

This is Pakistan's second consecutive exit from the group stage of ICC World Cup. They failed to go past the group stage at last year's ODI World Cup. Babar Azam stepped down from captaincy after the big failure in India but returned to lead the team just ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.

All the Pakistan cricket team players and their millions of fans back home and around the globe had their eyes glued to the weather conditions in Florida. Earlier, it appeared as if USA and Ireland would come out at least for a 5-over per side match.

The match officials waited for three hours before deciding to call off the match. It had not rained in Lauderhill since 8:30 AM (local time) but the match which was scheduled to take place from 10:30 AM could not start on time due to wet patches near the 30-yard circle.

Several rounds of inspection were done before a lightning alert forced players and officials to rush to the dressing rooms. Moments later rain followed as the match officials decided to give up and officially call off the match.
