Babar Azam was brutally trolled once again after he stepped down from Pakistan captaincy for the second time in 12 months. The 29-year-old informed about his resignation with a social media post at midnight.
The 29-year-old had earlier stepped down from captaincy across all formats after Pakistan's early exit in the ODI World Cup 2023. However, he was reinstated as Pakistan's white-ball captain months ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.

However, he failed once again in his second stint. Pakistan did not play any ODI match during the period, but had to settle for a draw against a second-string New Zealand squad at home, lost their first-ever match against Ireland, then got beaten by England before facing a first-round exit in the T20 World Cup 2024 after losing to the USA and India.
Announcing his resignation at 12:18 AM IST on Wednesday, October 2, Babar Azam said he was looking to reduce his workload and prioritise his playing role. He also expressed his desire to spend more quality time with his family.
"Dear Fans, I'm sharing some news with you today. I have decided to resign as captain of the Pakistan men's cricket team, effective as of my notification to the PCB and Team Management last month.," Babar Azam wrote.
"It's been an honour to lead this team, but it's time for me to step down and focus on my playing role. Captaincy has been a rewarding experience, but it's added a significant workload. I want to prioritise my performance, enjoy my batting, and spend quality time with my family, which brings me joy.
"By stepping down, I will gain clarity moving forward and focus more energy on my game and personal growth. I'm grateful for your unwavering support and belief in me. Your enthusiasm has meant the world to me. I'm proud of what we've achieved together and excited to continue contributing to the team as a player. Thank you for your love and support," he added.
Cricket fans roasted and mocked the star batter soon after his big announcement. One of the fans wrote, "Babar Azam stepped down from ODI & T20I captaincy. (sad day for other cricket teams)."
"So Babar Azam ended his captaincy career (for now) with 0 trophies and 2 resignations," another one wrote.
