Pakistan Cricket Team's disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 held in the USA has triggered widespread criticism from fans, media, and even political figures. At the centre of this storm is skipper Babar Azam, who has faced severe backlash for both his captaincy and lacklustre batting form.
The team's early exit from the biennial tournament, marked by losses to the USA and India, has intensified calls for changes within the squad and management.

Babar Azam once hailed as the cornerstone of Pakistan's cricketing future, has found himself at the receiving end of criticism from all quarters. Questions are being raised about his leadership abilities and his continuation as the team's captain. His poor run with the bat has only added fuel to the fire, with fans and analysts alike questioning his form and decision-making.
In a rather unorthodox criticism, Abdul Qadir Patel, a member of the Pakistan National Assembly, mocked Babar Azam's leadership in the Parliament. Drawing a parallel to former Prime Minister Imran Khan's dramatic display of a document at a rally in 2022, Patel suggested Babar should stage a similar act, sarcastically implying a conspiracy against him.
Abdul Qadir Patel said in the Parliament, "Ye cricket team ko kya hua hai. Yeh America se bhi haar gaye. Yeh India se bhi haar gaye toh Babar Azam ko apne hi kisi senior cricketer se sabak lete hue haarne ke baad ek jalsa rakhe, woh usme kagaz lehraye bole dekho yeh mere khilaf saazish ho rahi hai, koi usse kuch nahi puchega. Uske baad jo hai woh baat hi khatam ho jayegi.
Which loosely translates, "What's wrong with our cricket team? They lost to America (USA), they lost to India. Babar Azam should take a lesson from one of his senior cricketers and throw a party after losing where he should wave some documents in public stating, 'There's been a conspiracy against me'."
Abdul Qadir Patel's comments highlight the disappointment in Pakistan over Babar Azam-led side's underwhelming performance. The 2009 champions, who also reached the finals in 2007 and 2022, faced a disastrous start to their World Cup campaign, losing their first two group matches to the USA and India.
These losses led to their elimination from the tournament even before the Super Eights, marking one of their worst performances in recent years. The team managed only a consolation win over Ireland after their early exits were confirmed.
The shock loss to the USA, a team new to the tournament, and the subsequent defeat against India, Pakistan's traditional rivals, underscored the extent of the issues plaguing the team.
With the World Cup debacle fresh in memory, Pakistan cricket now stands at a crossroads. The backlash against Babar Azam and the players indicates a potential shake-up in the squad and management.
