Bahrain Create Unwanted History with Zero Runs in Super Over Against Hong Kong

By MyKhel Staff

Bahrain endured a historic and heartbreaking defeat in the Malaysia T20I tri-series against Hong Kong on March 14, becoming the first team in T20I history to score zero runs in a Super Over.

The dramatic contest saw Bahrain tie Hong Kong's total of 129 before collapsing in the one-over eliminator. Hong Kong, recovering from a prior defeat to Bahrain, opted to bat first and posted 129/7.

Bahrain cricket super over no run

Zeeshan Ali's 29 off 18 balls and Shahid Wasif's late hitting helped them reach a competitive total. Bahrain, in reply, started strongly with Fiaz Ahmed and Prashant Kurup adding 30 runs in the first three overs. However, Yasim Murtaza's double strike in his opening over derailed their chase. Ateeq Iqbal and Ehsan Khan tightened the screws in the middle overs, restricting Bahrain's momentum.

With 13 required in the final over, Ahmer Bin smashed a six off the penultimate ball to tie the game. However, attempting a winning shot on the final delivery, he was caught, forcing the game into a Super Over.

Bahrain sent Ahmer Bin and Sohail Ahmed to bat in the Super Over, but their hopes crumbled instantly. Facing Ehsan Khan, Bin failed to score off the first delivery and was dismissed on the second. Sohail followed suit on the very next ball, ending Bahrain's innings at 0/2 in just three deliveries. As per ICC's T20I playing conditions, losing two wickets ends the batting team's Super Over.

Hong Kong needed just one run to seal victory. Babar Hayat played cautiously, defending two balls before sneaking a single off Abdul Majid's third delivery, securing Hong Kong's win in a thrilling contest. This unprecedented Super Over collapse marks a forgettable moment for Bahrain, etching their name in the record books for an unwanted reason.
