Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan curated a sublime solo performance to topple England in the final ODI on Monday (March 6).
Shakib batted brilliantly for a 71-ball 75, and then weaved his magic with the ball to pick up four wickets (4/35) as the Tigers won the consolation match of the series. Despite losing the ODI series 2-1, it was a magical day for the ever-present Bangladeshi star Shakib, as he picked up his 300th ODI wicket in the match.
Rehan Ahmed became his 300th scalp as the left-arm spinner capped a fantastic performance with a major feather on his cap again. Shakib has 6976 ODI runs to his name and is just 24 runs away from becoming the second Bangladeshi batter to score 7000+ ODI runs. With this, Shakib has joined an elite and rare list of cricketers becoming the third player only to score 6000+ ODI runs and 300+ ODI wickets.
The 35-year-old is definitely the first Bangladeshi to achieve the milestone, while the other two players are Sri Lanka legend Sanath Jayasuriya and Pakistan legend Shahid Afridi.
The former Sri Lanka batter was mainly known for his fearsome batting at the top of the order. But bowling left-arm spin, Jayasuriya was a lethal open with the ball as well. He scored 13430 ODI runs and picked up 323 ODI wickets.
Pakistan's adored prodigy Shahid Afridi has scored 8064 runs with the bat in the 50-overs format. With his right-arm leg break bowling, Afridi has 395 ODI wickets to his name. The 43-year-old bid adieu to ODI cricket in 2015.
Shakib is currently ranked 7th in the ODI bowling rankings, while the Bangladeshi star occupies the top spot when it comes to the ODI and T20I all-rounder rankings. In the Test format, Shakib sits 3rd in the ranking, behind the Indian duo of Ravindra Jadeja (1st) and Ravichandran Ashwin (2nd).
