BAN-W vs SCO-W: In the opening match of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024, Bangladesh secured a 16-run victory against Scotland at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on October 3.
Opting to bat first, Bangladesh posted a modest total of 119 for 7 in their 20 overs. Opener Shathi Rani (29 off 31 balls) and Sobhana Mostary (36 off 38) were the key contributors with the bat, while skipper Nigar Sultana chipped in with a steady 18 off 18 balls.

The Scottish bowlers, led by Saskia Horley, put in a disciplined performance, with Horley taking an impressive 3 wickets for just 13 runs. Olivia Bell and Katherine Fraser also picked up a wicket apiece, keeping Bangladesh's total within a manageable range.
In response, Scotland struggled to find momentum in their chase. Despite a valiant effort from wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Bryce, who remained unbeaten on 49 off 52 balls, the Scottish team fell short, managing only 103 for 7 in their 20 overs. Bryce fought hard to keep her team in the game, but with wickets tumbling around her, Scotland couldn't build any meaningful partnerships.
Bangladesh's bowlers were exceptional, led by medium-pacer Ritu Moni, who claimed 2 wickets for just 15 runs in her four overs. She received valuable support from Marufa Akter (1/17), Nahida Akter (1/19), Fahima Khatun (1/21), and Rabeya Khan (1/20), all of whom picked up a wicket each, ensuring Scotland's batters never settled.
Scotland's chase was derailed early, with crucial wickets falling during the powerplay. Kathryn Bryce, the captain, was dismissed for 11, and no other batter except Priyanaz Chatterji (11) managed to reach double figures, apart from Sarah Bryce. The target, though modest, proved too steep for Scotland as Bangladesh's disciplined bowling attack applied constant pressure.
This victory marked a strong start to Bangladesh's campaign, breaking their decade-long wait for a T20 World Cup win, while Scotland, playing their debut match in the tournament, will look to regroup for future challenges.
