Bangladesh bundle out New Zealand for 98, register historic ODI win in Napier

Bangladesh created history by bundling out New Zealand for 98 runs in the dead rubber third ODI match at the McLean Park in Napier on Saturday, December 23.

After opting to bowl first, Bangladesh came out all guns blazing and picked two wickets inside the first 10 overs. The hosts were soon reduced to 70/6 in 22.1 overs before getting bundled out for 98 in 31.4 overs.

Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Soumya Sarkar picked three wickets apiece. Mustafizur Rahman picked one wicket. Opener Will Young top-scored for New Zealand with 26 runs. Captain Tom Latham scored 21 runs.

Bangladesh took just 15.1 overs to chase down the target and win the match by nine wickets. Soumya Sarkar was retired hurt for four runs, while his partner Anamul Haque scored 37 off 33 balls. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto smashed unbeaten 51 runs off just 42 balls.

It was Bangladesh's first ODI win in New Zealand. Also, it was New Zealand's lowest total against Bangladesh across formats. However, the match had no outcome on the result of the match.

New Zealand won the 3-match series 2-1. They won the first ODI by 44 runs, and the second match by seven wickets. The two teams will now face each other in a 3-match T20I series starting Wednesday, December 27.
