Despite not participating in an ODI since March, Mahmudullah is still being considered for the World Cup, according to BCB president, Nazmul Hassan. Hassan suggested that the seasoned mid-line batsman is part of the team that will face New Zealand later this month in an ODI series.
Since his last game, Mahmudullah has been absent from the 11 ODIs that Bangladesh have competed in. Initially, the team's selectors mentioned that he was rested, but he was not included in following teams, including the one for the current Asia Cup.

Following the New Zealand series, which concludes on September 26, Bangladesh's World Cup team will be revealed. Although teams are expected to announce their squads by September 5, there is some flexibility to make modifications after that date. And Hassan says the veteran can still make a comeback to the team.
"I think he is in selector's thoughts," Hassan said on Monday to reporters.
"I don't see why not. Our players are injury-prone like (Najmul Hossain) Shanto and Miraz yesterday. Mustafizur suffered in the first game. We need continuous replacements. We won't be able to cover the World Cup with eleven players. There's no need to take the standby players lightly," he added.
It is to be seen whether Mahmudullah makes it to the Tigers squad, but they will be hoping to showcase a better display in the coming couple of months. ODI format has been their strongest forte, and the recent Asia Cup will also provide a stern test as well.
