Bangladesh Ends ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Campaign with Dominant Win Over West Indies

By MyKhel Staff

Bangladesh ended their ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup 2025 campaign on a high note, claiming a commanding 10-wicket win over West Indies in Kuala Lumpur. Despite falling short of securing a semi-final spot, the team's performance showcased their potential and resilience.

Rain delayed the start, reducing the match to 13 overs per side. Bangladesh's bowlers delivered a clinical performance, restricting West Indies to 54 for six. Nishita Akter Nishi shone with the ball, taking three wickets for just 11 runs, while Anisa Akter Soba chipped in with two crucial scalps.

The West Indies batting lineup struggled to build momentum, managing only 12 runs during the powerplay. Nishita dismissed captain Samara Ramnath for a duck and followed it up with wickets of Asabi Callendar and Jahzara Claxton in quick succession, leaving West Indies in a precarious position at 16 for three.

Naijanni Cumberbatch and Brianna Harricharan tried to steady the innings, but Anisa's brilliant bowling broke the partnership, dismissing Harricharan for three. Cumberbatch managed 13 before falling to Jannatul Maoua, while Amrita Ramtahal's gritty 16 helped West Indies reach a modest total of 54.

Bangladesh openers Fahomida Choya and Juairiya Ferdous ensured there were no hiccups in the chase. They started aggressively, exploiting loose fielding from West Indies to score 11 runs in the first over. Both batters continued to find boundaries, with Juairiya top-scoring with an unbeaten 25, while Fahomida contributed 14.

The pair maintained a steady partnership, reaching the target in just 8.5 overs without losing a wicket. Juairiya sealed the victory in style with a boundary, capping off Bangladesh's third win of the tournament.

While the victory didn't secure a semi-final berth for Bangladesh, it was a strong finish to their campaign, highlighting the talent and promise within the team. On a rain-affected day at the World Cup, South Africa's match against the USA in Sarawak was abandoned without a ball bowled.

Brief Scores:

West Indies: 54/6 in 13 overs (Amrita Ramtahal 16, Naijanni Cumberbatch 13; Nishita Akter Nishi 3/11, Anisa Akter Soba 2/13)
Bangladesh: 55/0 in 8.5 overs (Juairiya Ferdous 25, Fahomida Choya 14)
Result: Bangladesh won by 10 wickets.
