Dhaka, Jan 24: Bangladesh's Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) says adequate measures have been taken to ensure security during the Under-19 Cricket World Cup that will be played in the South Asian country from January 27 to February 14.

RAB director general Benazir Ahmed briefed the media about the security measures after a meeting with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) here on Saturday, reports bdnews24.com.

He said the security measures have been taken considering all possible threats like sabotage and in coordination with all the other law-enforcing agencies. Latest technologies have been used at all venues where the matches will be played.

Ahmed and ICC and BCB officials reviewed security drills. Ahmed said the cricket officials are happy with the measures.

"We are committed to keeping them happy until the tournament is over," he said, adding that detectives in plain clothes have also been tasked with providing security to the players.

All the teams have already arrived in Bangladesh. Their cars are being monitored using GPS.

In reply to a query, he said there was no threat from militants.

"But we are aware of the latest data received from national and international agencies. A strong monitoring mechanism has been worked out. We are not suffering from complacency though we have successfully hosted the World Cup, Asia Cup and World Twenty20 safely. We are working to ensure highest level of security," Ahmed said.

Bangladesh will face South Africa in the opening match at Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on January 27. Eight venues in four districts will be used for the tournament. Australia withdrew from the tournament because of safety concerns.
