Bangladesh get initial ICC decision on T20 World Cup demands via Phone Call, Date revealed for Official Verdict!

By MyKhel Staff

In a firm virtual decision on Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) dismissed the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) last-ditch request to shift their Men's T20 World Cup fixtures away from India, pointing to security concerns as the core issue.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the ICC issued a tough ultimatum: Bangladesh's squad must travel to India for the February-March showdown, or they'll forfeit vital points. ICC have not seen any such immediate security threats to Bangladeshi players and thus doesn't seem to be interested in agreeing to Bangladesh's demands.

Bangladesh get initial ICC verdict on T20 World Cup demands via Phone Call Date revealed for Official Verdict

The BCB has stayed mum on any official response, but sources indicate the ICC rebuffed their venue-switch demands outright. Such eleventh-hour changes would wreak havoc on scheduling, travel, and broadcasting logistics for the global event. While Sri Lanka's board expressed readiness to step in and host Bangladesh's games, the ICC ruling may not require that anymore.

The dispute stems from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s directive to release Bangladesh pace ace Mustafizur Rahman from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) duties in the IPL, triggered by escalating geopolitical strains between India and Bangladesh. In response, the BCB fired off a letter to the ICC urging a venue relocation for "security reasons." Tensions spiked further with Bangladesh imposing a ban on IPL broadcasts domestically, amplifying the fallout from the Mustafizur contract row and signalling deeper cracks in bilateral ties.

ICC to give Official Verdict by this Week

As per Cricbuzz, the apex body of World Cricket will officially communicate their decision by this week, as January 10 has been put in as a deadline. Within January 10, which is the coming Saturday this week, ICC will officially provide their decision to the BCB, which is likely to remain the same.

The focus now shifts to the Bangladesh Cricket Board and their decision. If BCB continues their stance, they may have to forfeit the T20 World Cup. Or else, they are more than welcome to play in India.
