The government of Bangladesh has cleared the way for the telecast of IPL 2026, confirming that there are currently no restrictions on broadcasting the tournament in the country ahead of its March 28 start.
The announcement was made by Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, who stated that the government does not intend to mix politics with sports and will evaluate broadcasting requests from a commercial standpoint.

The clarification comes after uncertainty created by an earlier ban imposed under the previous interim administration, which had temporarily halted IPL telecasts in Bangladesh.
"No one applied to us to telecast the IPL. We don't want to mix politics with sport. We will look at it from a commercial perspective, and if any channel applies to telecast the IPL, we will consider it positively," Swapan said.
He further confirmed that international sports networks such as Star Sports are free to broadcast IPL matches in Bangladesh if they choose to do so.
This statement effectively signals a shift toward a more open broadcasting policy just days before the tournament begins.
Officials from the Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh also backed the move, stating that there are no current directives preventing the telecast of IPL matches.
They indicated that previous restrictions issued under earlier leadership are no longer valid, allowing cable operators to carry IPL broadcast feeds without interruption unless fresh orders are issued.
The earlier broadcast ban had created uncertainty among viewers and broadcasters ahead of IPL 2026. That restriction was linked to political tensions and administrative directives issued under the former interim regime.
With the new clarification in place, broadcasters are now expected to move forward with airing IPL matches, ensuring that fans in Bangladesh can follow the tournament without disruption.
The decision restores access to one of the world's most-watched cricket leagues and removes a major uncertainty just hours before IPL 2026 gets underway.
