In a bizarre turn of events during a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match on Tuesday, Chittagong Kings' Australian all-rounder, Tom O'Connell, was first ruled out for being timed out, but then recalled to the crease by Khulna Tigers' captain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, only to be dismissed on the very next ball.
The incident unfolded when O'Connell was called to bat at No. 7 after Haider Ali's dismissal. However, there was a significant delay between Ali's departure and O'Connell's entry.

As time passed, the players on both sides began to show signs of impatience. The Khulna Tigers' fielders were visibly restless, while substitute players in the Kings' dugout also seemed anxious.
O'Connell eventually sprinted towards the pitch, rushing to take his place. By that point, the umpires were discussing the situation with Mehidy Hasan Miraz. At one point, Mehidy even checked the umpire's wristwatch, indicating his intent to continue with the appeal for a timed-out dismissal. The umpire then informed O'Connell that he had been officially timed out.
The rules of the BBL says that in line with T20I regulations, the incoming batter must be ready to face the next delivery within 90 seconds of the previous batter's dismissal. If not, the batter can be timed out.
However, just as O'Connell began walking off the field, Mehidy reconsidered his initial decision. He spoke to the umpire and gestured for O'Connell to be allowed back into the game, showing great sportsmanship. This gesture was widely praised by the commentators, who lauded Mehidy for upholding the spirit of the game.
The drama didn't end there. On his first ball back, O'Connell faced a delivery from Mehidy and, unfortunately, hit it straight to the captain, leaving the commentators in utter disbelief.
Speaking of the match, Khulna Tigers batting first, posted a mammoth total of 203, thanks to blistering knocks from Will Bosisto (75) and Mahidul Islam Ankon (59). In reply, Chittagong Kings ignited hopes with a 78 knock but it went in vain as the Kings were bundled out for 166 runs.
