Bangladesh Squad For Champions Trophy 2025: Najmul Hossain Shanto Returns as Skipper, Shakib Al Hasan Misses Out

Najmul Hossain Shanto named captain again on his return from injury, but veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was left out as Bangladesh on Sunday (January 12) announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.

Shanto, who missed the tour to West Indies late last year, returned to action in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25 season. Having recovered from his injury, Shanto will reclaim the captaincy role from all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

As for former skipper Shakib, the 37-year-old has been left out after he was suspended from bowling in competitions under the jurisdiction of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) based on the outcome of an independent re-assessment conducted at Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science in Chennai, India last month.

The squad will also be missing out on the services of Tamim Iqbal, who recently called time on his international career and was among the leading run-getters in the previous edition of the tournament, where Bangladesh made it to the semi-finals.

Apart from Shakib and Tamim, another senior star Litton Das has been dropped from the squad after poor form. Jaker Ali is set to don the wicketkeeping gloves following Litton's omission.

Among the senior names, wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim, and all-rounder Mahmudullah have cemented their place in the unit. Soumya Sarkar and Tawhid Hridoy also feature in the group as batters.

A major highlight has been the maiden ODI call-up of Parvez Hossai Emon, who has seven T20I outings under his belt. Prodigious quick Nahid Rana, who made his debut in the format in the recent series against the West Indies, has also been entrusted.

Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman will lead the bowling attack alongside the likes of Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Rishad Hossain, who will be the lone specialist spinner with Mehidy playing the dual role as all-rounder. Here is a look at Bangladesh squad for Champions Trophy 2025:
