0-2 down in home series, Bangladesh will play for pride when they clash with Afghanistan in the 3rd ODI, which like the series opener and the second ODI, is set to take place at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury in Chattogram on Tuesday (July 11).

Litton Das-led Bangladesh suffered a 142-run loss on Saturday (July 8) in the second ODI to Hashmatullah Shahidi-led Afghanistan, who responded to the one-off Test defeat last month with back-to-back wins in the ODIs to seal the series.

Afghanistan rode on record breaking stand between openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, who smashed hundreds, to set a target of 332. In response, Bangladesh could manage only 189 before they were bowled by all-round bowling brilliance from the visitors.

The first match, which was rain-affected, saw a low-scoring first innings, but the second ODI which was played in clear conditions saw the team batting first post a total over 300. Will the conditions be the same for the third ODI?

The pitches at the venue have assisted both batters and bowlers, especially the slower bowlers, like most wickets in Bangladesh. The last match at the venue saw Afghanistan openers score big, but Bangladesh batters struggle for runs.

The last few matches, however, have been a mixed bag as three matches saw a team register over 300 runs, while the remaining have seen teams struggle to get past 250. The average score batting first at the venue is 226 and batting second or chasing is 186.

So, captain winning the toss will not hesitate to put runs on the board and try to defend the total with slow bowlers. Both teams are stacked with spin bowling options. However, if there is rain like the first ODI, the skippers may want to know the target they will need to chase.

This will also be the sixth time that the two sides will meet at the venue. So, the visitors also will have experience of playing on the slow wickets, which had been mastered by the home side till their recent defeats.

The first ODI witnessed interruptions due to weather, but the second ODI was played without any interruption. However, as it's the monsoon season in the country, there may be some spells of showers. So, will rain play spoilsport in the Bangladesh vs Afghanistan 3rd ODI?
