Asian rivals clash in what could decide a semi-final spot from Group 1 when Bangladesh face Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match 12 at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent on Monday (June 24).
Najmul Hossain Shanto-led Bangladesh heads into the match on the back of successive defeats to Australia and India. They lost by 50 runs to India in their most recent fixture, but still stand an outside chance of progressing to the semi-final.

Rashid Khan’s Afghanistan, on the other hand, responded to the defeat to India in their opening Super 8 game with a stunning 21-run win over Australia in their most recent outing to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
The two teams are mathematically still alive in the semi-final race from Group 1, but their future in the competition will depend on the result between India and Australia. While India seem favourites to top the table, Australia still have a positive Net Run Rate compared to Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
If India beat Australia in the earlier fixture and Afghanistan win the contest against Bangladesh, the two semifinalists from Group 1 will be finalized in the final Super 8 match.
While they clash for the second time in the T20 World Cup, Afghanistan and Bangladesh will meet for the 12th time in shortest format and also for the first time in Kingstown venue. Here is a look at the head to head numbers of AFG vs BAN:
