Bangladesh cricket team on Sunday created history by sealing their first-ever series win against England. The hosts defeated Jos Buttler-led England by wickets in the second T20I at the Shere Bangla National Stadium to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series.

Opting to bowl first, Bangladesh restricted the dangerous England batting line-up to 117. The side got all-out on the last ball of the 20th over. Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked four wickets after spending just 12 runs in four overs. Ben Duckett (28) and opener Phil Salt (25) were two of the highest run-scorers for England. Shakib Al Hasan (1/13) removed Salt, while Mustafizur Rahamn (1/19) dismissed Duckett.

In reply, Bangladesh lost their openers Litton Das and Rony Talukdar inside the powerplay overs. Najmul Hossain Shanto (46* off 47), the architect of the Bangladesh chase in the first T20I, rose to the occasion again and stitched crucial partnerships with Towhid Hridoy (17) and Miraz (20) to take his team close to the 100-run mark.

Bangladesh vs England: Bangladesh survive Archer scare

Just when Bangladesh were heading towards an easy win, Jofra Archer removed Hasan in the 16th over and Moeen Ali dismissed Shakib for a duck in the next over. Archer (3/13) struck again in the 18th over to left Bangladesh reeling at 105 for 6 in 17.5 overs. With 13 runs required off the last two overs, Shanto smashed a boundary off Chris Jordan on the first delivery of the penultimate over. He then took a double and a single before Taskin Ahmed (8* off 3) hit two back-to-back fours to seal a historic win for Bangladesh with seven balls to spare.

Bangladesh first-ever series win over England

Earlier, Bangladesh had lost four of their five Test series against England. One in 2016 had ended in a draw. England have also won each of their five bilateral ODI series against Bangladesh. The ongoing bilateral series is the first between the two nations.

Notably, England are the second-ranked T20I team in the world. Bangladesh are ranked ninth as per the latest ICC rankings.
