Bangladesh vs New Zealand: Bangladesh will take on New Zealand in the first match of the 3-match ODI series at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on Thursday. Both the teams have rested their key players to give them adequate rest ahead of the all-important World Cup 2023 which starts from October 5.
Lockie Ferguson will be seen leading the New Zealand team for the first time. Litton Das, who has led Bangladesh seven times across formats, including the ODI series win against India last year, will captain the Bangladesh team in the absence of Shakib Al Hasan.

Apart from Shakib, Bangladesh have also rested Mushfiqur Rahim, Najmul Hossain and Towhid Hridoy. Former captain Tamim Iqbal has recovered from a back problem and is back in the squad. Mahmudullah, axed after the England series in March following poor form, has also been called back.
Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult, Rachin Ravindra, Ish Sodhi and Will Young are the only five World Cup-bound players New Zealand have sent to Bangladesh.
While Bangladesh crashed out of the Asia Cup 2023 after winning just one dead rubber against India in the Super Fours, New Zealand also lost the 4-match ODI series 1-3 earlier this month against England.
The Shere Bangla National Stadium traditionally offers substantial assistance to spin bowlers. Recent data indicates that teams opting to bat first have enjoyed greater success than those choosing to bowl first. The pitch deteriorates and becomes spin-friendly making batting difficult. Therefore, the team winning the toss could opt to bat first.
Left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan has most wickets at the venue. He has picked 68 wickets at an average of 23.35 in 45 matches. Second on the list is former Bangladesh captain and pacer Mashrafe Mortaza. He picked 37 wickets in 31 matches at an average of 25.83. The stats prove that quality seamers can also work their magic on the pitch.
There are high chances of rain in Dhaka on Thursday, September 21. The precipitation level is expected to be as high as 90 percent. With a temperature of 31 degree celsius, the humidity level will hover around 79 percent.
