Bangladesh win first-ever Test match against Pakistan, hammer hosts by 10 wickets in Rawalpindi opener

Bangladesh registered historic first-ever Test win against Pakistan by chasing a 30-run total with 10 wickets remaining on the final day of the series opener at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday, August 25. Bangladesh also became the first team to beat Pakistan in Pakistan by 10 wickets in a Test match.

In a stunning display of spin bowling, Bangladesh bundled out Pakistan for 146 in the second innings. The hosts started with their overnight score of 23/1 but were eight down for 118 in the 43rd over.

The visitors showed a brilliant display of spin bowling to rattle a very capable Pakistan batting unit which scored 448/6 in the second innings. The likes of captain Shan Masood (14), Babar Azam (22), Saud Shakeel (0), and Agha Salman (0) - all failed as Bangladesh cruised to their seventh overseas Test win.

While veteran left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan picked three wickes, Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with four wickets for 21 runs in just 11.5 overs. The off-spinner previously stitched a crucial 196-run partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim. Miraz scored 77 off 179 balls in the first innings, and also picked a wicket in the first innings.

Pakistan have now lost their last four matches on the trot. Shan Masood has lost each of the four Test matches as Pakistan captain. He lost all three Test matches in his debut Test series as captain against Australia.

Pakistan's approach to play the match without a specialist spinner backfired big time. Bangladesh were six down for 332 at one stage in the first innings, but the 191-run knock from Mushfiqur Rahim bent the match towards a probable draw.

At the end of Day 4 play, the Rawalpindi surface came under a lot of scrutiny, however the unthinkable happened on the final day. Bangladesh took just 44.5 overs on Day 5 to wrap up Pakistan's second innings, and then chased the target in just 6.3 overs.

Rizwan, who scored a hundred in the first innings, top-scored for Pakistan with 51 off 80. Six Pakistan batters got out for single digit scores.

The second and final Test match of the series will be played from August 30 at the same venue.
