The fourteenth edition of Big Bash League - BBL 2024/25 is down to two teams as Hobart Hurricanes will take on Sydney Thunder in the title clash at the Ninja Stadium in Hobart on Monday (January 27).
Nathan Ellis-led Hobart Hurricanes, who finished top of the BBL standings, earned a direct entry to the final following a 12-run win in the qualifier against Sydney Sixers at the same venue in Hobart.

David Warner's Sydney Thunder, on the other hand, had to get past two teams to reach the summit clash. The third-placed Thunder first defeated fourth-placed Melbourne Stars by 21 runs in a truncated Knockout match before seeing off their local rivals Sixers by 4 wickets in the Challenger.
As the two sides prepare to clash for the title in season 14 of BBL, here is a look at their previous record and their final appearances in the Big Bash League so far:
Sydney Thunder has won the Big Bash League only once so far with the title triumph coming back in 2015-16 season when they defeated Melbourne Stars by 3 wickets at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne.
The meeting against Hurricanes will only be their second final appearance, having reached only as far the Challenger final since their only title win. In 14 appearances, Thunder has reached the finals stages or playoffs six times.
Hobart Hurricanes has never won the Big Bash League so far either in the men's or the women's competitions. The Hurricanes, however, have reached the title clash twice, finishing second best on both ocassions.
While they first lost to Perth Scorchers in the 2013/14 season at the WACA in Perth, the Hurricanes also lost to Adelaide Strikers in 2017-18 season at the Adelaide Oval. In their first final appearance, they suffered a 39-run loss, and in the second they lost by 25 runs.
Perth Scorchers, who defeated Hurricanes in the 2014 final, is the most successful team in BBL, having won the title a record five times in their eight final appearances. The Scorchers also lost three finals.
The second most successful side in the Big Bash is Thunder's rivals, Sydney Sixers, who have won the final three times, and also lost the title clash four times, including the last edition to Brisbane Heat, the third best team with two titles.
Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades have one title each, while Hurricanes have Melbourne Stars for company as the two sides to never win the BBL so far. Can Ellis' side change that record? Here is a look at the BBL 14 Final details:
