BCCI Act as Gautam Gambhir's Ally Among 3 Face The Axe in Team India Support Staff For BGT Debacle - Report

By MyKhel Staff

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly acted strictly and sacked three members of Gautam Gambhir's support staff ahead of the tour to England following Team India's poor performances in Test cricket.

Despite winning the Champions Trophy, the Indian men's cricket team has been under scrutiny after poor performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, forcing the BCCI to conduct an inquest, including the media 'leaks' that took place during the tour Down Under.

Abhishek Nayar set to face the axe in Gautam Gambhir s Team India support staff

After a shock 0-3 loss at home to New Zealand last year, India lost the five-Test series against Australia 3-1 with captain Rohit Sharma going through a rough patch and a lot of dressing room leaks happening during that period with suspicion that someone from the coaching staff was giving away too much info.

Now, according to a report from Dainik Jagran, BCCI has acted following the enquiry on the performance and the media 'leaks' as the cricket body has sacked Team India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, fielding coach T Dilip and Physical trainer Soham Desai from their roles.

However, it has not been cofirmed if any of the aforementioned names or which of the three support staff were involved in the media leaks as complained by a member of the Team management in the review meeting following the conclusion of BGT earlier this year.

Nayar had only joined Gambhir's support staff eight months ago alongside his former Kolkata Knight Riders colleague Ryan ten Doeschate after the duo oversaw the KKR team to their third IPL title.

As per the recent report, Ten Doeschate is expected to fill the role of Dilip as fielding coach, while BCCI is unlikely to appoint a replacement for Nayar or another assistant coach as Sitanshu Kotak has already been appointed as the batting coach.

The report also added that former Team India and KKR physical trainer Adrian le Roux will replace Soham in the support staff. Soham and Dilip have been part of the support staff since the previous team management under Rahul Dravid. The duo are now set to depart due to the recent directive of BCCI, which states support staff working over three years are likely to be replaced.

The news will likely be made official in the coming weeks before India travel to England to play a five-Test match series after IPL 2025 in June-July window. Team India will also be travelling to Bangladesh for six white-ball games in August.
