BCCI and entire Indian cricket sinking like the Titanic

Indian cricket is in turbulence. The captain was not in command nor the coach. It's a madhouse out there, with the BCCI also adding fuel to the fire. Each day a new skeleton tumbles out of the cupboard, plus someone is being hauled over the coals for being overweight.

Still not got it, Gautam Gambhir has blamed Sarfaraz Khan for "Dressing Room Leaks". Nobody is in control, no not even the two new officials who have taken over as secretary and treasurer of the BCCI. Forget BCCI President Roger Binny, he is worse than a puppet.

The credibility of Indian cricket and the BCCI, the richest board has crumbled like a cookie. It is indeed a national shame, how being smashed by the Aussies in the BGT series 3-1 has led to an utter collapse. Gambhir is also frothing if he has said harsh words about Sarfaraz, a wunderkind from Mumbai last year. So, the coach cannot control a newcomer, so how will he cope with seniors is the big question. The atmosphere is bad, each news leak confirms it. How come Gambhir has not said a word on Jasprit Bumrah, whose back injury is serious. He will be out for a long period, as reported by myKhel.

Confusion is there on team selection, where Gambhir will no longer have a say. The team for the Champions Trophy 2025 has to be named soon. Rohit Sharma will lead and Virat Kohli is a certainty. But who is asking RoKo, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill to play Ranji Trophy? Is the team being prepared for white-ball cricket or red-ball cricket. Playing Ranji Trophy will not wash the sins of the BGT Series. No way.

The latest one hears is the coaching staff has to be bolstered. That is a tacit admission, Abhishek Nayar, hired at the behest of Gambhir has been a failure. If that is the case, sack him. Interestingly, the name of Sitanshu Kotak is being mentioned as batting coach. Plus, by social media interpretation, even Kevin Pietersen, who loves India, is suppose to be open to a coaching role.

It's become a laughing stock the BCCI does not trust the coach and his team. Perhaps, before team selection, coach selection will happen. All this is madness in the short run. Imagine, if India does badly in the Champions Trophy, there will be mayhem. Heads will roll, and Gambhir knows it as well. Rohit Sharma does not have to worry as he has already told the BCCI to look out for a new captain. Is that for ODIs, leading to the 2027 World Cup or the Test series in England, we don't know.

How come such a mess has been created? This was not the situation when BCCI secretary Jay Shah was in command. His elevation to ICC chairman role has hurt Indian cricket. It is less than five days after the new BCCI secretary and treasurer came on board, nothing has changed. This was never the case when Ravi Shastri or Rahul Dravid were in command.

Is it not insensitive nobody is speaking up on Jasprit Bumrah and the fast bowler on bed rest has to use his own X handle to say he is not on bed rest. Indian cricket is a laughing stock, not created by one series defeat. It has been a series of defeats, ODIs in Sri Lanka, Test series against New Zealand in India and to Pat Cummins and company Down Under.

Common thread, Gautam Gambhir is responsible for all this as the CEO of the side, if that be the coach's role. Gambhir has been unable to deal with seniors and juniors. It's unhappy out there and the BCCI will not waste time in removing him if there is a poor showing in the Champions Trophy 2025. With team spirit zero, the coach not meeting eye to eye with captain Rohit, how fast has Indian cricket collapsed?
