BCCI Bans England Star Harry Brook From IPL For 2 Years: Report

By MyKhel Staff

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed a two-year ban on England batter Harry Brook following his decision to withdraw from IPL 2025 due to personal reasons. Brook, who was signed by Delhi Capitals for ₹6.25 crore in the mega auction, announced his withdrawal in a social media post on March 9.

As per a report in The Indian Express on March 13, the BCCI has officially communicated the ban to both Brook and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The ban prevents the 26-year-old from entering the IPL auction for the next two seasons, as per the tournament's new regulations.

"An official communication has been sent to ECB and Brook about BCCI banning him for two years as per its policy, which was informed to each player before they registered their name for the IPL auction last year. It's a policy set by the board, and each player has to oblige to it," a BCCI official confirmed to The Indian Express.

As per the revised IPL rules, any player who registers for the auction and later pulls out before the start of the season will face a two-year suspension from the league.

Brook had previously withdrawn from IPL 2024 for similar reasons. Addressing his latest decision, he expressed regret towards Delhi Capitals and their fans.

"I have made the very difficult decision to pull out of the upcoming IPL," Brook stated. "I apologise unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters."

Reflecting on his love for the sport, he added, "I love cricket. Ever since I was a young boy, I have dreamt of playing for my country, and I am extremely thankful to have the opportunity to play the game I love at this level. With the guidance of people I trust, I have taken the time to seriously consider this decision. It is a really important time for England cricket, and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series. In order to do this, I need time to recharge after the busiest period in my career to date."

The decision has sparked debate, with some supporting the BCCI's firm stance on player commitments, while others sympathize with Brook's personal situation. With the ban in place, Brook will be unable to participate in the IPL until at least 2027.
