"I want to thank my father for allowing me to play the game of cricket and give me freedom to do whatever I wanted to. All my coaches, especially AN Sharma for making me the cricketer I am," he said.

"I want to thank my first captain Ajay Jadeja and other captains Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble. I want to thank Sachin Tendulkar. "I would like to thank all my fans for standing by me in my good and bad times," he added.

Former India skipper Anil Kumble, who was at the ground, paid rich tributes to Sehwag. "He was an absolute match winner. India won because he put pressure on the opposition from the first ball," Kumble said.

The right-hander played 104 Tests, 251 ODIs and 19 T20Is scoring over 17,000 runs. He hit 38 international centuries (23 in Tests, 15 in ODIs).
